Enabling Browser Notifications

You can set up your browser to get notifications, like meeting reminders, from websites. It can help you respond to messages and emails more promptly. Follow the steps below to enable browser notifications for your desired websites.

Google Chrome

  1. Go to the site you wish to enable browser notification, click on the "View site information" icon on the left of the URL, then click on "Site settings". In this section, Slack is used as an example.

  1. On the Site settings page popped up, look for "Notifications" under "Permissions" and select "Allow" on its drop-down menu. If you would like to allow/block any other permissions, you can do that on this page as well.

  1. Close the Site settings page and go back to the site of which you changed the permissions, then click on "Reload" for the changes to apply.

  1. You can see in the site information that Notifications is allowed for Slack.

Firefox

In Firefox, you will have to navigate through the website/application and enable notifications through its settings, so the steps may look different for every website/application. This guide includes the steps for Slack and Google Mail, which are two websites that our organization commonly uses.

Slack

  1. On the Slack page, there should be a message at the bottom prompting you to enable notifications. Click on "Enable notifications".

  1. A pop-up will appear on the top of the window. Click on "Allow" to grant Slack permission.

  1. You will receive a new message from Slackbot saying that notifications are enabled. You can also see in the Permissions settings that Send notifications is allowed for Slack.

Google Mail

  1. On the Gmail page, click on the Settings icon on the top right corner, then click on "See all settings".

  1. Under "General", scroll down to look for "Desktop notifications", then click on "Click here to enable desktop notifications for Saga Education Mail".

  1. A pop-up will appear on the top of the window. Click on "Allow" to grant Gmail permission.

  1. You can see in the Permissions settings that Send notifications is allowed for Gmail.
